Invented by Brazilian dentist Christian Coachman in 2007, it focuses on giving you a perfect smile in complete harmony with your lips and face.
This innovative approach allows you to preview results, communicate preferences, and ensure the final outcome matches your expectations exactly. It's like having a test drive for your new smile before committing to treatment.

1 · Patient Records & Photography
High-quality facial and intraoral photos, videos, CBCT scans (not all cases), and digital impressions from an iTero scanner form the foundation of your smile design.
2 · Digital Facial Analysis
DSD Software maps your facial midline, interpupillary line, smile line, and dental proportions as well as teeth inclination onto the photos to identify what needs correction.
3 · Smile Design & Mock-Up with Digital Simulation
The dentist with dental technician digitally reshapes teeth (length, width, shape, shade) in harmony with the face. If you have crooked or proclined teeth, you will require a correction of teeth alignment with braces or aligners. In some patients, the gingiva is also reshaped. Then a physical or printed "trial smile" can be created from this.
4 · Patient Preview & Approval
This is DSD's biggest advantage. You see your new smile as a simulation on a monitor or wearable mock-up before committing — reducing anxiety about your future smile. We call this a Test Drive for your future smile — you check the look and feel directly in your mouth. Once you approve it, we go ahead with the treatment.
5 · Treatment Planning
The approved design guides which procedures are needed: veneers, crowns, gum contouring, orthodontics, or implants.
6 · CAD/CAM Fabrication & Delivery
Restorations are milled from the digital design (zirconia, e.max, etc.), ensuring what was designed is what gets delivered. This helps us make your smile not only exceptional, but also functional and comfortable for years to come.

How iTero Lumina Integrates with the DSD Process
iTero Lumina is a digital intraoral scanner made by Align Technology (the same company behind Invisalign), and it plays a central role in the data-capture and communication stages of DSD.
Intraoral Scanning
iTero replaces conventional impressions with a fast, comfortable optical scan. It captures the teeth, gingival margins, and occlusal relationship as a full-colour 3D mesh in minutes — no gagging, no distortion, no stone model pouring.
3D Model for Design Software
The scan exports as an STL or OBJ file that drops straight into DSD planning software (DSD App, exocad). The digital model becomes the base on which tooth reshaping, wax-up simulation, and proportion analysis are performed.
Outcome Simulator
iTero has a built-in feature that overlays a simulated result onto the patient's scan in real time while they're still in the chair. This is a powerful case-acceptance tool — patients can see an approximate version of their new smile before any treatment begins.
Invisalign / ClinCheck Integration
Because iTero and Invisalign are both Align Technology products, scans upload directly to the ClinCheck platform for aligner treatment planning. This makes iTero the natural scanner of choice whenever DSD includes an orthodontic phase.
Lab Communication
